Activities and News for 2011

1 - 10th group hikeIn 2011 the Beavers were joined by four Guides (Megan & Eric Duffy, Leigh Haughey & Emma Buchanan) from 5th Gourock Guides who were working on their Service for Baden Powell Award.  Over the past year eight Beavers received their Chief Scout Bronze Award and ten new Beavers were invested into the colony.  They have taken part in the District Beaver Day and visited Funworld.

They held a party to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Beavers and were joined by past Leaders Geraldine Harron, May Lightfoot and Mary Woods and past GSL’s Bob Lynch & Bill Lightfoot.  Beaver Assistant Eunice Lynch said goodbye to the colony in June after over 12 years.  New Beaver Leaders will be Anne-Marie Brady and Mark Rodgers.

The Cubs have had a number of young people receive their Chief Scout Silver Award and have been working on lots of badges.  They have taken part in District Cub Day, Camp to Everton, Climbing at South Newton and Laser Quest.  Cub Euan McDonald joined Bob Lynch and radio club members on a hike to Meikle Bin and received instructions on Map Reading, using a compass and geo-caching.

The Scouts have also had a number of young members receive their Chief Scout Gold Award and have been working hard on a number of badges & Challenge Awards.  They have been on a few camps including Lochgoilhead and a Patrol Leaders camp, Laser Quest & Hikes with the Radio Club.  They visited the Radio Club and with the help of Explorer Scout Stephanie McCann worked on their Communicator badge which they all completed.  The group held a sponsored hike round the Greenock Cut in May with Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Parents & Leaders joining in.  On arrival at Cornalees Bob Lynch took them Geo-caching.  After the hike there was a BBQ at Cornalees to finish the day.
