85th scouts group jubilee camp.

The 85th Scout Group all came together at the weekend to say ‘thank you’ as part of Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.  The Group Camp is held every year to allow different sections to get to know each other and this year it has been themed on the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

There were a variety of awards at this camp.

Congratulations to Deputy DC Andy Yarr who received his Silver Acorn award for, at least, 20 years’ service “that is specially distinguished and appreciably better than outstanding”. This certainly is the case for Andy. He was presented his award by Kenny Paton and our Regional Commissioner Ian Hunter was in attendance.
Wendy Yarr received her 30 years service award and chief scouts commendation for good service.
Ilona Buckley received her 10 years service award, David Reid his 5 year service and wood beads. Patrick Arkley received his 10 years service award and Chief Scouts Commendation for good service.
Group scout leader Dawn Kerr received her Commissioners Commendation for all her work during the pandemic keeping the 85th Group going.

We planted a tree beside a commemorative plaque as a tribute at the Everton Camp to mark this special occasion.   The past couple of years have been testing for all of us but with The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations there’s never been a better excuse for great big get together to say thank you to everyone who has helped us through.  A massive thank you to all Instructors, Scouts, Explorers/Young Leaders and parents who made the weekend possible.

What a weekend it was!! The weather was fantastic and the activities available to our younger sections definitely made their weekend.  We had abseiling, tomahawk, crate climbing and to top it for the Cubs the powerboats.  The Beaver Sections created bunting to decorate the parade ground and tables as part of the Jubilee Celebrations.  For some it was their first camp and I am sure it was a memorable one.

Well done to all our volunteers who received awards over the Platinum Jubilee weekend, we’re hugely proud of you all.

45th jubilee camp

Fantastic weekend for our Jubilee camp. Great to have Cub and Scout sections doing archery, grass sledging & orienteering as well as cooking, gadget building, giant jenga, campfire and more.

4 of our scouts were invested and Niall McQauide received a commissioners commendation for his significant contribution over the past few years.

Niall and all the scout leaders worked hard during COVID providing a mixed programme.  Well done all.

Cathy Bratton was presented with her 10 year service award. Many thanks Cathy.

70th Cubs

The cubs celebrated the Queens Platinum Jubilee with a BBQ and beach party at Lunderston Bay. The sun was shining as the cubs had great fun playing games and taking part in a Jubilee scavenger hunt all finished off with some burgers and of course cake.
