Subpages for Port Glasgow Scouting:

Margaret Rodgers

It was with regret that former members of Port Glasgow Scouting and Guiding attended the funeral service of Margaret Rodgers on the 5th March 2009. She was 93 years of age and had lost the use of her sight many years ago. Taking her Funeral Service, the Rev. Andrew McLean of St Andrew’s Parish Church said that she looked upon every day as a blessing.

Margaret’s maiden name was Hamilton prior to her marriage to Joseph (a Master Painter). In her younger years she had been Cub Mistress in Newark Church for a long number of years. Having thought that she was safely into retirement, she was asked to take up the position of ADC (Cubs) with Port Glasgow District Scouts. She had the ability to command respect and did a very good job of all things required of her.

Below is a photograph circa 1952. It shows Margaret in the front row, extreme right (next to Anna Petrie, Assistant Secretary )  Unfortunately, we are unable to name all people in the photograph but to name some:-

Back Row – Reg. Stevens (Sec.) William Terry (3rd P.G.) John Hetherington (Badge Sec.) R. Claude Abrahams (Chair) Jack Madden (Ass Chair) Lawrence Trann (1st P.G.) James Ramsey (5th P.G.) and David Rankin (Treasurer)

Front Row – Provost Lucas and his wife.

We would be grateful if anyone could identify the unnamed people.
