Peter Bennett – Dinner in recognition of term as D.C.

On 23rd January 2019, we held a surprise evening to recognise and thank Peter Bennett for his achievements in his role as District Commissioner of Greenock & District Scouts from 2013 to 2018.

The event was held in the Tontine Hotel, Greenock and attended by over 70 members of Scouting along with 2 guests representing Guiding. Peter and Ruth were piped into the hall by David Storey with a Grace from Kenny Paton before everyone enjoyed an excellent meal.

This was followed by a speech from Robbie Henderson followed by Peter’s reply reflecting on his time as DC and encouraging everyone to ensure Bernie McGuinness, his successor as DC, is given the high level of support he enjoyed. Peter was presented with Scouting gifts by Marie Claire Davidson and Angela Aitken and a gift from Guides by Norma Ramsay. Flowers were presented to Peter’s wife Ruth to recognise her support and efforts by Ross McCaig. The Vote of Thanks was made by Kenny Wilson.

Entertainment was presented by Kenny and the Gang Show band joined by adult members of the show with excerpts from the Opening, Oh Happy Day with a rousing finale which Peter joined.

Peter was recognised as having done an incredible job, building the district, and he has been approachable, honest and trustworthy which was evidenced by the numbers attending along with the significant age ranges represented there.

The event was enjoyed by all who attended with requests that more social events be held for adult members of the movement locally.
