More 2 Explore

Centenary of Scouting for Explorers entails 12 camps across Scotland for this year

During the week end of Saturday 16 June, More 2 Explore was the 4th in the series and the national light weight camping competition for Scottish Explorers. 14 teams took part.

The Saturday took the form of a massive scavenge hunt across the city of Edinburgh. The photos illustrate some of the tasks undertaken.

The Sunday was taken up with skill and fun type bases.

Greenock District came first and second. North Face Explorers 32nd.won by 9 points over Westburn’s 5th. who were second. A great effort by both teams. All made lots of good friends and have been invited up to Tain in November for a great outdoor four wheel drive adventure camp. The phones were constantly in use with the sounds of text messages being sent and received between minibuses on their way home.

Congratulations to both Groups. They are a credit to Greenock District.

The ninth in the series of centenary explorer camps the Bennachie Challenge was held at Daviot Camp site by Inveruriie on the weekend of the 21st-23rd September. 5 explorers from the 5th. Westburn Unit attended this event which included a range of challenges. 140 explorer scouts from all over Scotland took part and had a great time. Teams were mixed and all explorers won some part of the competition. Well done to Mathew Thorburn, Jonathan Donnachie, Jordan Pickett, Iain Dobbin and Stewart Keenan for taking part. The next camp will be Highland Extreme at Tain 2nd.-4th. November and the 5th. Explorers are looking forward to another great camping experience.
