D.C. David McCallum meets P.M. Gordon Brown
District Commissioner, David McCallum and his wife Carol were invited to attend a Reception at 10 Downing Street on Wednesday 24th March 2010.
The Reception was one of Community Heroes events honouring individuals who have gone that extra mile to be involved in local Communities.
The invitation was arranged by local MP David Cairns who also treated them to a guided tour of the Houses of Parliament on what was a very busy budget day.
At No. 10, David Cairns introduced them David and Carol to Gordon Brown, his wife Sarah and also Home Secretary Alan Johnson and Hilary Benn, the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
Mr Cairns said: ‘I was delighted when David and Carol accepted my invitation to come along to the Reception. They have devoted a huge part of their lives to helping young people in Inverclyde and deserve to be recognised as Community Heroes. Greenock and District Scouting is the fastest growing in Scotland and indeed the UK. Downing Street receptions can be quite busy, so I was pleased when Gordon Brown and Sarah took the time to speak to David and Carol and be photographed with them. The picture makes a great memento and will always remind them of their evening at No 10.
