Annual District Parade
The Annual District Parade was held on Sunday 6th June 2010. Nearly eight hundred members took part watched by a police estimate of 2,000 family and friends lining the streets.
The Parade formed in two sections. The first led by our own Leapmoor Scout Pipe Band followed by the 45th, 42nd, 47th, 57th, 59th, 70th and 73rd Groups.
The second section was led by St. Columba’s School Kilmacolm Pipe Band followed bythe 80th, 85th, 97th, 10th, 32nd, 33rd, 5th and 6th Groups
Eight hundred members assembled in the grounds of Greenock Academy and marched along Finnart St turning into Nelson St and Greenock Wesrburn Church of Scotland for the Service.
In a filled church, the Service was conducted by the Rev. Bill Armstrong and Father Jim Byers. During the Service, Bible Readings were read by Marie Claire Davidson and Ross McCaig. All Sections stood to renew their Promise.
After the Service, the Parade reformed in Ardgowan St and marched along Union and Newark Streets returning to Greenock Academy. The Offering gathered totalled £328.24. It will be given to the World Scout Bureau to assist young people, from less privileged former British colonies, to attend the World Jamboree in Sweden next year.
On route, the March Past Salute was taken by District Chairman Ronnie McEwan, District Commissioner David McCallum, Deputy District Commissioner Peter Bennett and recent recipient of the Silver Wolf Ian Canning.
