Greenock and District:- No 1 for Growth
In August 1909, Greenock Scouts claimed to be the strongest force of the Scout movement in Renfrewshire. There was 300 boys, 26 Leaders and 9 Troops.
One hundred years on, we are still creating records.
Scout Headquarters have released figures for the year 2009 Census. These figures show that Greenock and District are the now the No 1 District in Scotland for growth, and No 2 in the entire UK (with 169 new members coming on board last year alone). This is the 3rd year in succession we have had rapid growth.
Total Members:- In real terms we have 1303 members in the District. In 2004 for example we were down to a membership of 866 ( 437 new members in that short time)
Beavers:- This is the real success story. We have risen by 41.3% in 2009 alone. This is the 3rd year in succession we have had rapid growth. We have 428 Beavers compared to 223 just 3 years ago. In real terms we have 205 more Beavers than we had then. We now have 19 Colonies, which is up 5 in 2 years

Explorers and Network:- A slight downturn in Explorers but growth in Network
Adult Leaders & Fellowship. More than we have ever had, 216 in 2009 compared with a low point in 2002 at 139. We could still do better here though
Sections:- We now have 58 compared with 40 in 2004
Leadership:- None of the above has happened by accident. We have a real committed team of 134 Adult Leaders in this District, led by an able District Team and committed GSL’s. Well done to everyone for your terrific effort.
