National Explorer Scout Competition
The Scottish National Explorer Scout Competition 2009 was held over the weeekend of 12 to 14 June 2009 at Greenock and District’s Everton Scout Camp Inverkip. 18 teams of Explorer Scouts (14-18 yrs) competed for the Andy Mathews Trophy, some having travelled from as far afield as Tain .
On Friday evening the teams settled in and met each other. The main element of the camp was on Saturday with an early start for activities which spanned the next seven hours. The teams walked or ran between varied bases run by local Scout Leaders and Fellowship. The bases were Emergency ( simulated car accident ), Orienteering, Kayaking, Ropes and Pulleys, Pioneering and Rib Riding on the Clyde. The activities finished with a session at Gourock Outdoor Swimming Pool.
The evening started off with a camp fire run by District Scout Leader David Storey. This was followed by a casino and finally with a rave in the large marquee.
Sunday was based on site at Everton with Archery , Golf Jacobs Ladder, Assault Course, Crate Climbing and the Internet Bus on offer.
Camp finished on Sunday afternoon with the Trophy being presented by Jenny Stevens, Scottish Commissioner for Explorer Scouts. The Winning team was 85th Greenock and District(1st Inverkip) closely followed by the 32nd Greenock and District NFESU with Tain in 3rd .
