This funding will enable a programme of major ground improvements is to be undertaken at Everton Camp. The proposed work includes improved drainage & ditching, replacing boundary fencing, special needs & wheelchair access pathways, resurfacing of the multi purpose sports area and upgrading of the lodge toilet facilities.
A report to Inverclyde Council states:-
Over the past few years, Greenock & District Scouts have been striving to carry out many improvements at Everton. The aim is to maximise the number of young people who can enjoy sports and outdoor activities in a safe environment including those with special needs. The proposed improvements which will be funded by the bid will therefore provide a significant investment in youth facilities in the Inverclyde area.
Service users attached to the Criminal Justice team, who are on community payback orders, will carry out unpaid work at the camp.
A plan of work is being drawn up with Everton staff to enable the £80,000 revamp will commence in early spring of 2012.
District Scout Commissioner David McCallum said: “I am absolutely delighted with this funding for Everton. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us to get all sorts of works carried out there that otherwise would have taken us years to achieve.
“We already have one of the finest campsites in Scotland and this takes us right up there with the very best offering access for all. It is a tremendous boost for Scouting in Greenock and District
