District Commissioner
Welcome to Greenock and District website, which I hope you will find of interest.
Now in its 104th year, Greenock and District Scout Association continues to grow from strength to strength. Week in week out, our team of almost 200 volunteer adult leaders, provide a full and balanced programme of activity for our 1411 members in 16 groups throughout Inverclyde. You can find out where we meet if you click on our ‘where to find us’ link
This web site has recorded all of our events since our highly successful centenary event year in 2007, and I do hope you take time to browse through the site. You will also note that the site has many hundreds of photographs of our groups, past and present. Go on, have a look and take a trip down memory lane.
Scouting is alive and well in Greenock and District, with a 70% rise in membership over the past 4 years, which equates to just over 600 new members. We are still growing, with new Beavers Colonies, Cubs pack and Scout Troops springing up from Wemyss bay in the west to Quarriers village in the east.
In the past 12 months, we have seen a record number of Chief Scouts awards, almost 200 and Queen Scout awards, 6 in total which is great testament to the sheer hard work of our leadership team. 5 Of our Queens Scouts attended the Queens Scout parade at Windsor and were inspected by HRH The Prince of Wales and Chief Scout Bear Grylls. It was also terrific news that Ian Canning, one of our stalwart members was awarded the Silver Wolf in the 2010, St George’s day awards.
Our Scout Shop within our Finnart Street H,Q is open on a Tuesday evening between 7 and 8pm, as well as a Saturday morning from 10 till 12.00 noon. All items of uniform and badges can be purchased.
If you are interested in any way in what we do, please drop in for a coffee on a Saturday morning and a chat, with myself or any other leader. If you are a parent of a child who is keen to join, please give me a call on 01475-522531.
