Centenary World Scout Jamboree – Clyde Unit
All 7 Scottish Units gathered at Fordell Firs Scout Activity Centre near Dunfermline on the weekend 15th/17th June to finalise their preparations for the main event which starts at the end of July.
The Clyde Unit which represents Renfrewshire, Dunbartonshire and Argyll had a full turnout of members and leaders and despite some hostile, typically Scottish, weather on the Saturday enjoyed a full programme of activities which included land yachts, hovercraft, quad bikes, caving, zip wire, crafts, crate climbing etc etc.
The units camped in sites marked out to the size that can be expected at the Jamboree and stores issued and meals preparation was all as per the main event.
The Saturday evening programme started off with a rallying call from the man who signed the UK’s application to host the Centenary Jamboree 12 years ago, ex International Commissioner John May, who also cut the Centenary Cake for us before declaring the barbeque open. The evening was rounded off with the loudest disco imaginable.
On Sunday the Unit spent some time sorting out the tent sharing arrangements for the event and discussing the equipment that should be brought.
We have just been advised that we shall be camping on the Lagoon sub camp within the Tropical Hub.
